About The Lambda Meme

Why ymeme?

This site is a personal collection of technology tidbits that are either useful, beautiful, or both.

Ymeme stands to reveal a connection between Lambda and Meme.

The word meme stands for itself of course, in the sense of Plato's Eidos (εἶδος).

Y stands for the greek letter Λ (lambda), printed upside down. So, lambda calculus is involved, and anything downhill from there.

There is a relationship between "Y" and "meme" as well.

Y in this case stands for the Phoenician letter Lamedh, that gave rise to the Greek Lambda (Λ). The literal meaning of the letter Lamedh is "to learn" -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamedh -- and meme reminds of "Meem" the thirteenth letter of many Semitic abjads -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mem

Now, in one of the Semitic scriptures, they say that "thirteen meems, appear in the "primordial air," the (outer) "space" into which the letter Lamedh soars."

From all the above, and more, ymeme.com.

Some Q&A

A: You pronounce it "The Lambda meem"

Q: Is it true that "Y" stands for Yoga as well?

A: Yes, we like Yoga very much, even if we do not know how much content about yoga we are going to publish on this site. For the best Yoga (as in yoga sutras) site available on the web, visit Yoga of Sri Chinmoy

Yoga does not mean just hatha yoga but stands first and foremost for the Hindu philosophy outlined initially by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, one of the six, and possibly the highest, astika (orthodox) schools of Hindu philosophy.
